THE RED QUEEN – ARRIVING IN WONDERLAND
Charlotte Graf with her 5-piece band Ginger & Tonic winds back the clock to her arrival to Wonderland almost 30years ago – to a land where there were no traffic lights, road cones or traffic jams. A wonderful theatrical land where she first discovered the delights of song & futter wacking. Charlotte pays tribute to those early years and the creative heroes she met that helped her ‘live the dream’ and become…. The Red Queen. Music from: Elton John, David Bowie, Aerosmith, Lorde, Taylor Swift, Dire Straits & Led Zeppelin.
YOU’LL NEVER BE A SINGER
“You’ll Never Be A Singer” is a humorous and poignant look at locally acclaimed vocal tutor and writer/performer Margaret O’Hanlon came to be where she is today. Growing up in NYC she attended the infamous “FAME” school (LaGuardia School of Performing Arts”) only to be told that she would never “become a singer”. She could have taken their advice and given up but instead her stoic Irish and Quaker background propelled her forward – so far forward that she found herself in New Zealand teaching others the joys of singing. Margaret’s mantra has always been “If you can talk, you can sing” – and talk she can; recalling moments from her upbringing in New York, her travels to NZ and her journey to finding her real voice and her desire to help others find theirs. The show features defining songs by Irene Cara, Aretha Franklin, Mary Black, Nina Simone, Kate Bush and Alicia Keys. Margaret is joined by the incomparable Mark Wilson (piano). Alex Pyle (guitar), Martin Roy Guy (drums), Martin Rylev (bass) and Nigel Hirst (saxophone).
