REAL WORLD LEARNING APPROACH

Our learners are supported to make an impact in our community and to our world

CREATING A VIBRANT & POSITIVE FUTURE

Our real world learning approach identifies problems which are worth solving, and then we set about partnering with individuals and organisations who want to share in the challenge.

The Liger Leadership Academy ultimately wants to make a difference to our local Queenstown community and be an active contributor to creating a vibrant and positive future. We have three main approaches to our learning:

PROJECT- BASED LEARNING

Explorations are deep and authentic projects where learners work together in small groups to explore a relevant, often complex question, problem, or challenge found in the community, nation, or world. Our typical projects are multi- faceted, covering a wide range of competencies and disciplines.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

Our Experiential Learning helps students learn best by actively engaging with the real world.

Students learn by doing in a real-world context and extensively use their world around them as their classroom – including interacting with experts and organisations globally at least 25% of the time.

OPPORTUNITY- BASED LEARNING

Liger’s Project-based Explorations courses challenge students to work together to tackle local, national or global problems.  We believe Opportunity-Based Learning helps our students break away from textbooks and replace them with real experiences and real experts to acquire their knowledge and develop their understanding.

The ability to recognise an opportunity, evaluate its usefulness and pivot towards its central to our learning model because our mission is to teach students to teach themselves what they need to know, when they need to know it.

To demonstrate that Liger values Opportunity-Based Learning we created an ‘Opportunity block’ every Wednesday afternoon to provide students with the time to identify and act on opportunities that help them achieve their goals in Explorations and beyond.
